uhardiman, thefounder of the Central Organization for Indonesian Employees (SOKSI), one of theGolkar Party's oldest affiliate organizations, has fired the organization'schairman, Ade Komaruddin, for supporting presidential candidate PrabowoSubianto and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa.
'Suhardiman, as founder, has used the authority granted him by SOKSI's constitution to dismiss Ade,' Robinson Napitupulu, a member of SOKSI's advisory council, said on Thursday.
According to Robinson, SOKSI officially supports presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, a position that runs counter to Golkar's formal endorsement of the Prabowo-Hatta ticket.
Suhardiman, Robinson added, had appointed Lawrence TP Siburian as the organization's acting chairman to carry out the rest of Ade's tenure, which lasts until 2015.
Ade, a Golkar lawmaker, has been known to oppose the policies of Golkar chairman Aburizal Bakrie, before finally acceding to Golkar's decision to join the Prabowo-Hatta coalition, which is led by Prabowo's Gerindra Party.
Aburizal decided to join the coalition after negotiations with Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the leading party of the Jokowi-Kalla coalition, failed to net an agreement.
Golkar's attempt to form a separate coalition with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party also failed. In the final hour, Aburizal decided to forego his own presidential aspirations and join the Prabowo-Hatta coalition.
The surprise decision angered many Golkar members, including senior Golkar politicians, who felt that Golkar's strong performance in the April 9 legislative election -- where the party won the second-most number of votes -- should have enabled Aburizal to run either as a presidential or a vice-presidential candidate.
