Graft suspect Sutan Bhatoegana has announced his resignation as chairman of the House of Representativesâ Commission VII overseeing energy and minerals
raft suspect Sutan Bhatoegana has announcedhis resignation as chairman of the House of Representatives' Commission VII overseeingenergy and minerals.
Democratic Party lawmaker Milton Pakpahan has been appointed to replace Sutan, according to kompas.com.
"Yes [I have resigned] because I am being tested. I am no longer the chairman of Commission VII because I feel like I am no longer effective," Sutan said at the House in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named in early May Sutan a suspect for allegedly accepting bribes from officials of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas), as well as from several oil and gas companies.
In February, Sutan is said to have accepted US$200,000 in bribes from Rudi Rubiandini, the former SKKMigas head, via Commission VII member Tri Yulianto.
Sutan said that after being named a suspect, he continued to preside over Commission VII meetings.
"I went to open the meetings, but the deputy led in my place. I had to keep working because it would have been corrupt if I continued to receive my salary without doing so," he said.
Sutan said that he involved members of the Democratic Party in the decision to appoint Milton as his replacement.
Previously, Sutan had resigned from the Democratic Party's central board. (fss)
