ChongWei, one of the tournament's favorites, defeated Sony 21-7, 21-11.
Duringthe first set, Sony kept pace with his adversary, but Chong Wei upped his game andadopted a more attacking approach.
Inresponse, Sony went on an offensive of his own in the second set but Chong Weistopped him to reach higher score.
ChongWei was scheduled to face Brice Leverdez of France after the Frenchman beatChou Tien-Chen, a men's singles player from Chinese Taipei.
Thetournament, which is being jointly held by Bank Central Asia (BCA) and theDjarum Foundation until June 22, is seeing players from 28 countries compete to wintotal prize money of US$750,000. (gda)
