Five Indonesian nationals were pronounced dead after their boat capsized after leaving Malaysia's west coast on Wednesday.
"We are still trying to verify the victims' identities," deputy Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia, Hermono, told Antara news agency in Kuala Lumpur.
The boat was reportedly heading to Aceh and was carrying 97 passengers when it sank in Selangor waters on Wednesday morning. Sixty-one people were rescued while the search for more survivors continues.
Hermono said the identities of the dead Indonesians were being verified by the Malaysian police. Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno went into the scene with a task force from the Indonesian Embassy to gather information.
"Ambassador Herman has also asked for the APMM [Malaysia's maritime agency] to look for victims that have not been found," Hermono said.
Hermono added that the Indonesian Embassy and the Malaysian immigration department were working together to help survivors return home safely.
