National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced on Wednesday a partnership with hospitality firm Hilton Worldwide that will allow members of the GarudaMiles customer loyalty program to earn points when they stay at any of the over 4,100 hotels in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio.
Amelia Nasution, Garuda's vice president for customer relationship management, said the airline sees an average 35 percent increase in GarudaMiles memberships annually, and that the new partnership is expected to provide more benefits for the program's members.
'We have more than 1 million GarudaMiles members, and more than 5,000 destinations since we joined SkyTeam, while Hilton has more than 4,100 hotels worldwide. Therefore, this cooperation is beneficial for both Garuda and Hilton,' Amelia said during a press conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Jakarta.
Garuda is expected to see an increase in passengers to 24 million this year, from 20.4 million recorded last year.
Through the partnership, members of reward programs from both companies can earn 10 points from Hilton's rewards program, HHonors, plus one GarudaMiles mile for every US dollar spent during stays at any Hilton property.
'Indonesia is a key, growing market within Asia, and we are continuously looking for new ways to reward the increasing number of Hilton HHonors members that travel to the region,' said Mark Weinstein, Hilton Worldwide's vice president for commercial services strategy, loyalty programs and strategic partnerships.
The partnership was announced on the same day as the DoubleTree by Hilton's grand opening in Central Jakarta, marking the launch of the company's third hotel in the country after the Hilton Bandung in West Java and the Conrad in Bali.
'DoubleTree by Hilton is currently our fastest growing full-service brand, with a portfolio of over 370 upscale hotels in gateway cities, metropolitan areas and destinations across six continents,' said William Costley, Hilton's vice president of operations in Southeast Asia.
The newly built upscale hotel, which began operations in May, has a total of 253 rooms with three dining outlets, an outdoor pool and seven meetings and events rooms.
The international chain of full-service hotels and resorts is set to open another four new hotels with luxury, upscale and midscale classifications in Indonesia over the next few years.
The US-based hotel chain, which previously managed and operated the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta, is set to introduce its midscale brand, the Hilton Garden Inn in Bali, which is scheduled to open by the third quarter of this year.
Another Hilton Garden Inn located in Kuta, Bali, will also be launched in 2016. Additionally, the hotel chain plans to operate its luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria, at the Thamrin 9 Tower in Jakarta in the near future, while a similar facility in Bali will be ready for operations in 2017.
