"Pancasilais our foundation. The first point clearly states: 'Ketuhanan Yang Maha Esa [Belief in One God]', so it is part of our identity," Jokowi told reporters in Tegal,Central Java.
"Whyshould we eliminate it [from IDs] while it is about our nationalidentity?" he added. "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika [United in Diversity] mustbe upheld."
Healso denied reports that he had told Musdah Mulia, a member of his campaignteam, he had approved the idea to eliminate the religion category as had been reportedby certain media outlets.
She said that religious identity could trigger discrimination and lead to religious and claimed Jokowi had approved the idea. (dic)
