Angsel Elgort (left) and Shailene Woodley appear in The Fault in Our Stars
It's a simple story of girl meets boy, girl has cancer and so does the boy ' and they fall in love. The hard part is that a cry fest is guaranteed in The Fault in Our Stars.
Based on John Green's bestseller, The Fault, the film is a far cry from your usual overly sentimental teen love story, as it makes us think about how we should live our lives and deal with our fates.
Adapted for the screen by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the cast brilliantly portrays the characters in the book.
Shailene Woodley, 22, is cast perfectly for the role of 16-year-old Hazel Grace Lancaster. She plays opposite Ansel Elgort as Augustus Waters.
Those who have watched Neil Burger's Divergent might cringe a bit seeing the on-screen siblings play lovers in The Fault, but the chemistry is there.
The book itself has many lovely, quotable lines on every page that are visually translated into the movie.
'I fell in love with you the way you fall asleep,' said Hazel ' the name Gus lovingly called her. 'Slowly, and then all at once.'
Although those who have read the novel might come to weep, there are also some showy moments that might raise some eyebrows.
Director Josh Boone inserts the museum trip scenes, which risk relegating the whole story, although it could also be seen as their way of making the best of the little time they have together.
Willem Dafoe plays a pivotal role in the movie as the creepy writer idolized by Hazel.
The Fault is another variant of Love Story for this day and age that make us think about how to make each day more magical than the last.
