'I was informed by his parents on Thursday that my grandson was already being treated in hospital,' said Arfiand's grandfather, Sutisna, as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.
Arfiand's parents were unavailable for comment due to their bereavement.
According to Yuli, another family member, Arfiand was in the middle of trekking with his friends when he suddenly felt that he could not continue the activity. Furthermore, Arfiand fainted once the group reached its destination.
The other members of the group then rushed Arfiand to the MMC hospital. During initial examinations, doctors reportedly found bruises on Arfiand's body, and therefore urged the family to report to the police so they could investigate the origin of the marks.
A memorial service was taken place at the Poncol Jaya cemetery in South Jakarta. (dic)
