Nowadays, many employees consider happiness as an important factor when picking their job. Thus, a good career means making a good living in a workplace that also makes you feel happy.

Fortunately, many firms are trying hard to provide a happy workplace.

According to last year'€™s survey by CareerBliss, Intel was listed as among the top five happiest companies for young professionals based on key factors that affect work happiness such as environment, relationships with colleagues and supervisors, growth opportunities and company culture.

'€œIntel is a big ship with many divisions and hierarchy. However, employees are encouraged to take leadership roles in projects and take calculated risks. Our ideas are valued and, in general, working at Intel is quite entrepreneurial," said 30-year-old Intel Regional Asia-Pacific and Japan product marketing manager Riswanto.

He added that Intel'€™s great corporate culture and work environment, where colleagues constantly support one another in a team and supervisors listen and delegate work accordingly, was why enjoyed working for the firm.

"At Intel, there is virtually no barrier between employees and their supervisors. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to have one-on-one meetings frequently to ensure effective communication among peers. The idea is to minimize miscommunication and to focus on execution," he explained.

Opportunities to grow professionally within Intel are also satisfactory through various rotations and leadership development, training and coaching programs.

Riswanto cited in particular Intel's unique T-CAP program, where employees are rotated to different roles within different divisions for a short period of time (three to six months) to backfill positions left by other employees.

In terms of building toward the future, working at Intel is also very satisfying, he said.

"There are tangible compensations such as base salary, bonuses, stocks plans and insurance benefits. But, also quite importantly, there are intangible compensations like the work-life balance, the industry connections, credibility and learning," said Riswanto.

Intel'€™s flexible policy that encourages mobile working or working from home is a major plus point as well. This translates to not only efficiency in a congested city such as Jakarta, but also to more time for family.

For a new father like Riswanto, being able to spend more time with his 8-month old baby at home is one of the company'€™s intangible compensations that he is very grateful for.

In short, according to Riswanto, Intel earned is spot in the top five of the world's happiest companies for young professionals.

"Intel has existed since 1968 and because it mostly deals with semiconductor and technology components, people have a preconceived notion of it as a boring company. On the contrary, Intel is continuously working on exciting innovations, either organically or through strategic partnership and acquisition. The benefits and work-life balance at Intel are also great, which shows that it values its people," he explained.

If there is anything more to add, Riswanto suggested that in the future, Intel should hire more young professionals from various educational backgrounds to enrich the company with more fresh ideas.
