Bogor mayor launches '€˜curhat'€™ car

OGOR: The Bogor administration and the department of human ecology at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) have launched a special vehicle to travel around Bogor to listen to the public'€™s grievances on health, family and other social issues.

The car, which is called Mobil Curhat (a car to tell stories in), was rolled out on Monday, as reported by tempo.co.

'€œThe car will travel twice every weekend to specific areas, especially to crowded places, where people can share their problems and find a solution,'€ Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto said on Monday.

The car will also include a Body Composition Analyzer that is able to measure a person'€™s body mass index.

Bima said the idea of the Mobil Curhat came from the worryingly high levels of social and health problems in Bogor. The issues included nutrition, violent clashes, substance abuse, divorce and also a high number of people with HIV/AIDS, he said.

Although Bima said he was sure some of the problems could be solved by increasing the administration'€™s budget, he thought that incorporating consultation sessions with experts would be much more effective.

Vice dean of the department of human ecology at IPB, Achmad Sulaeman, said the car would be a way for IPB to gain closer ties with the local community.

Furthermore, he added that the experts in the Mobil Curhat would consist of IPB staff and students.

'€œTherapists are expensive. If you visit the car, it'€™s free and confidentiality is guaranteed,'€ Achmad said.
