More palm oil producers are looking to be certified to allow them to continue accessing the European Union although it may lead to higher expenses. The EU is due to fully enforce its 2011 regulation on food labeling, which would require a separate label detailing the various vegetable content of food items.
Your comments:
Since smallholders are such a large part of palm oil production, they need to be educated better: A job for the palm oil organizations.

It is quite interesting to see how Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) organizations react to the EU food labeling, but they forget to include local farmers in their process of certification! It is a shame.

One more bureaucratic layer steers smallholders away from a decent income. Sustainable criteria should be reviewed.
