Gerindra Party chief patron and presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto cast his vote in the presidential election on Wednesday and said he was confident of winning against Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
Prabowo arrived at a polling station nearby his residence in the hilly Babakan Madang area in Bogor, West Java, at 10:15 a.m. in a Lexus SUV and was accompanied by his only son Didit Hediprasetyo, United Development Party (PPP) politician and Public Housing Minister Djan Faridz, Gerindra deputy chairman Fadli Zon and secretary-general Ahmad Muzani.
Hundreds of local residents, many of them registered voters, applauded when the former Army general greeted them after casting his vote.
Speaking to journalists, Prabowo said he was confident about winning the election.
"Insha'Allah, we will get huge support from all people everywhere," said Prabowo.
Prabowo did not immediately leave the polling station and instead stopped to talk to local residents, many of which had waited since early morning to see Prabowo.
However, Prabowo soon found himself surrounded by dozens of journalists and appeared to become annoyed as they blocked his way to meet his enthusiastic supporters.
"Journalists always surround me. I want to meet my people," he said.
