Today, the new direction of Indonesia has been decided. We are heading for a better Indonesia; an Indonesia in which the people are healthy, smart, cultured, prosperous, fair and just. Today a new history has been created. This is a new phase for Indonesia.

I want to assert, that this victory is not the victory of Jokowi-JK [Jusuf Kalla], not a party’s victory, nor the victory of the successful team. This is a victory for the entire Indonesian people. Once again, my fellow countrymen, this is a victory for the entire Indonesian people!

The real victory of the people is that the victory came about through participation, not mobilization. People who were conscious  of their rights and obligations, and not those who were intimidated. People who sincerely worked without precondition, not those who were tantalized by promises of positions or such things as that.

Dear fellow countrymen, our duties do not stop when the presidential election is over, rather our duties will become more important after the presidential election is finished. Winning the presidential election means serving the people, taking care of the people’s welfare and moving all elements toward achieving prosperity and justice.

I invite all sides, from any party to unite together as one to create a better Indonesia.

The winning figures have been published, but we must bear in mind that they are just quick count results, not the official results of the KPU [General Elections Commission]. The figures are only provisional although we’re still grateful that we got higher numbers in the quick count. The published quick counts have come from credible and undeniably reputable survey organizations. Their quick counts in the April 9, 2014, legislative election were very accurate, and indeed were almost the same as the final recapitulation by the KPU.

Now our obligation is to safeguard today’s election outcome until it becomes the official result of the KPU. We must safeguard it and make sure that the vote counts at the KPU proceed correctly, cleanly and without any intervention from any party. I call on all parties not to try to besmirch the sincere aspirations of the Indonesian people in today’s ballot.

I invite all sides, from any party to unite together as one to create a

better Indonesia.

I also would like to express my appreciation for Bapak Prabowo Subianto and Bapak Hatta Rajasa, who have contributed to making our democracy better. Both of them are patriots, who love and fight for Indonesia. I will continue to respect both of these gentlemen, and believe that in any role, Bapak Prabowo and Bapak Hatta will continue to serve Indonesia.

We need to be thankful that our nation has successfully completed a general election, the major implementing factor of a democracy. The election is the essence of democracy that we have been building painfully for decades.

This is what our founding fathers dreamed about.  We have to be thankful and proud of this. We can show the world that the fourth-largest country in the world can implement democracy.

We want to be a civilized country. The essence of democracy is elections and the elections must be run well, honestly and fairly. We have also put our best efforts into obeying the laws, procedures and rules.

We want to be a civilized country. We don'€™t want to be reckless since the essence of democracy is respect. A good deed is an important thing, but how it is carried out is also important.

The vote-count verification will soon be handled by the General Elections Commission [KPU]. I think we have to be very careful, alert and ready in case some people refuse to respect and obey the institution that is established by the people'€™s representatives.

We don'€™t want to live in a situation where formal institutions are not respected, obeyed and followed by the public.

Many countries have strictly regulated the practice of election quick counts. As Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD said, we will consider the KPU'€™s final result announcement as the only formal result of the election.

According to reports from regional adminstration heads who lead our local campaign teams, Prabowo-Hatta is leading the real vote count in many regions. That is the real situation.

Let us be patient and wait for more incoming vote-count results. Please let the KPU verify and judge the election results in a fair manner. I want to see my supporters restrain their emotions.

We don'€™t need to overreact. There'€™s no need to show off power. Real warriors don'€™t need to show off their power.

Strong people do not need to show off their power.

We will be patient. We will follow all procedures. We will obey the law. We will try to behave. But don'€™t think that we are weak.

Don'€™t think that we can be sold out. Don'€™t think for even a second that we aren'€™t able to uphold the truth.  Don'€™t ever think that we can accept lies.

Once again, we will let the KPU handle the entire vote count. Let us be patient. But, let us be ready and alert.

We have huge power. Our power is  our people, not power that can be hired by foreigners.
