cting Jakarta governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has given PT Jakarta Monorail until September to complete its construction design and to prove that it had sufficient funding to cover the project.
Ahok has repeatedly questioned Jakarta Monorail's ability to construct the monorail network in the city, as the company had failed to submit the construction design since last year.
'If by September they don't prove that they can actually undertake this project, I will cancel their contract,' Ahok said on Thursday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He said that he had already informed non-active governor Joko Widodo of the possibility of the contract being canceled.
'It's fine. If we can't have a monorail, we will build an LRT [light rapid transit] system instead,' Ahok said.
