he chairman of National Mandate Party's (PAN) consultative board and 1998 reform icon, Amien Rais, said on Tuesday that PAN would stand behind losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his claim that widespread fraud occurred in the vote recapitulation.
"My son [Hanafi Rais] has acknowledged the victory of Jokowi (president-elect Joko Widodo). But that's his choice. I and PAN will not back down from supporting Prabowo," said Amien at Polonia House in Jakarta.
Hanafi on Sunday congratulated Jokowi for winning the election after the vote recapitulation by the General Elections Commission (KPU) indicated a wide margin in the vote in favor of Jokowi.
Amien refused to comment on the refusal of PAN chairman Hatta Rajasa, Prabowo's running mate, to accompany Prabowo when the later announced his rejection of the KPU tally.
"I heard that he [Hatta] is at home. His absence is not a big deal," he said. (tjs/ren)
