Pertamina subsidiaries enjoy growing output

Subsidiaries of state-owned oil and gas giant PT Pertamina operating in the upstream sector reported increasing output during the first semester of the year, thanks to successful drilling.

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore (PHE WMO), which operates the WMO block located in Madura, East Java, said its output had reached an average 21,155 barrels of oil per day (bopd) during the January to June period of the year, jumping significantly by 64.3 percent compared to 12,878 bopd in the same period last year.

Despite the production increase, PHE WMO'€™s first-half output remained slightly below its full-year target of 21,432 bopd by year-end.

However, the company remains upbeat about achieving this year'€™s target as it recently broke a record-high daily production of 23,762 bopd.

Meanwhile, its gas production reached 118 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), already higher than the company'€™s target this year of 113 mmscfd.

The growing gas production was driven by several moves, particularly the drilling of four development wells, which contributed 1,450 bopd.

The operation of a temporary production facility at the PHE 38A field also increased the field'€™s output to 4,700 bopd from previously around 1,500 bopd.

'€œAt the beginning of the year, PHE WMO'€™s oil and gas production was disrupted by bad weather. However, we continue to try to meet the oil and gas production target set by the government and hope to maintain the growth momentum in the second half of the year,'€ PHE WMO president and general manager Boyke Pardede said.

Another Pertamina'€™s subsidiary, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ), also reported satisfying performance.

The company'€™s first half average production touched 40,300 bopd, which is already higher than its full-year target of 39,400 bopd.

Moreover, Pertamina Hulu Energi is hopeful that it will post far better output given that it previously reported a daily output record of 46,400 bopd.

However, PHE ONWJ, which operates the ONWJ block covering 8,300 square kilometers in the Java Sea area, saw declining gas production.

The company reported 192 mmscfd in gas output in the first semester of the year, which is lower compared to 215 mmscfd in the same period last year.

It is targeting to reach 207.7 mmscfd in gas output by year-end.

As part of attempts to meet the target, PHE ONWJ installed the new GGA platform in GG field located offshore Indramayu, West Java. The work was completed in June.

'€œThe GGA platform installation will help PHE ONWJ to see additional gas production of 31 mmscfd from GG field,'€ PHE ONWJ executive vice president and general manager Jonly Sinulingga said.

Indonesia, a former member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has been trying to maintain its oil production, which has been on the decline as fields have been depleted.

The government has been calling on contractors to carry out more drilling to find new hydrocarbon, which would secure output in the future. But industry players have been complaining that prolonged permit issuances have hampered drilling works.
