he city police said they have deployed more than 7,000 personnel to maintain security and order during the Idul Fitri holiday, as most vital assets would be unattended and a majority of residents would return to their hometowns.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that the deployment of the police officers was part of a security operation called Operation Ketupat 2014, which would run from July 22 to Aug. 6.
He said besides maintaining public order, the police would also intensify traffic operations in Greater Jakarta in line with the ongoing exodus and residents' return after the holiday.
'The police officers will be allocated to vital assets and housing compounds that we consider need extra protection, such as accident-prone areas,' Rikwanto told reporters at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday.
Rikwanto added that during the Operation Ketupat period, the police would also establish 120 security posts across the city to receive any reports of security disturbances and provide rapid responses.
'During the holiday there are sometimes some people that knock on doors, asking for charity. But if they force, or even assault, you to give them money, you can file a report at the nearest security post,' said Rikwanto.
