our comments on the verdict against former Bank Indonesia (BI) deputy governor Budi Mulya, who was found guilty of graft in his involvement with the controversial Bank Century bailout in 2008, the decision for which was made with others, including Vice President Boediono:

Why doesn'€™t the court try to get more of the state'€™s money back?

Balistars

I do not pity the thieves and fraudsters who steal the people'€™s money. No matter how many years they are imprisoned, I do not have an iota of pity.

When I saw how children were having to cross a broken bridge with a swollen river underneath them to just go to school; when I saw a 3-year-old child in Binuang, South Kalimantan, extend his hand to me, even though we were strangers, because he was hungry and I was eating corn on the cob on the roadside, I welled up with tears.

But I do not pity these scumbag cheats going to jail.

Where is the money? That'€™s what I'€™d like to know.

Bank Century seemed to be there solely for the elites to pilfer money whenever it suited them.

The first figure mentioned was Rp 689 billion; so who got at the money to begin with?

Then in went the bailout money of Rp 6.7 trillion.

There are indications that several senior figures just plain stripped this bank for their own gain.

There must have been more than one executive tied in with the many favors going to this bank.

The trick is to locate each of the defaulting recipients of this money.

No wonder the wealthy elite remains the wealthy elite with this kind of money up for grabs.

BI deputy governor at the time, Budi Mulya, has been found guilty.

Therefore, Vice President Boediono, as BI governor at the time of the bailout in 2008, should also be held responsible for the controversial bailout policy.
