This would be the first time he spent his Idul Fitri holiday back home since becoming vice governor in 2012 because he traveled to Bali with his family last year, according to tribunnews.com.
"I'll return to my hometown on the first day of Idul Fitri. Pak Jokowi [Jakarta governor Joko Widodo] is back in Jakarta so I'm going home," he said at the National Monument in Jakarta.
Ahok said he wanted to return to his hometown like many other Jakarta citizens did annually.
"I'm returning to my hometown, too. The ketupat (rice cake) is much better there," the former East Belitung mayor said.
Jakarta civil servants are scheduled to return to work on Aug. 4. As they had done in previous years, Jokowi and Ahok plan to hold a Halal bi Halal (post-Idul Fitri) gathering for the provincial apparatus working units (SKPD) at City Hall. (fss)
