Rupiah strengthens slightly to 11,563 per dollar on Friday afternoon

he rupiah traded among banks in Jakarta on Friday afternoonappreciated slightly by five basis points to 11,563 per US dollar, up from theprevious 11,568 per dollar.
Monex Investindo Futures analyst Ariston Tjendra said that the rupiah's improvement was limited as investors were worried about a possible immediate increase of the US benchmark interest rate.
"The decline in the US unemployment rate and inflation rate are signs that the US Federal Reserve may immediately increase the US interest rate," he said in Jakarta on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
In addition, he said that developments in Ukraine that might increase the global price of crude oil and gas were effecting the global economy.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's mid-rate data showed that the domestic currency was traded at 11,591 per US dollar, weakening from the previous 11,531 per dollar.(nfo)
