ozens of parcel vendorshave returned to the Cikini train station in Menteng, Central Jakarta, to runtheir businesses in the lead-up to the Idul Fitri holiday.
They have been permitted to vend at the station only until the Idul Fitri holiday, and must then return to designated buildings nearby.
Last year, the vendors were relocated from Cikini Station to the Cikini Gold Center in a bid to make way for the station's renovation. The relocation was carried out after the vendors were involved in conflict with state-owned train company PT KAI for several months.
A parcel vendor who asked for anonymity said that she, along with other vendors, was actually not permitted to sell parcels at the station. The city administration gave her a temporary permit to return to the station, she said, but such leeway was being shown during the fasting month of Ramadhan only.
'We enjoy increased revenue here [at Cikini station],' she said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
