Indications of vote buying in presidential election, says Prabowo-Hatta

T

he legal team of the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential ticket says it has found indications of vote buying allegedly perpetrated by the Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo-Jusuf Kalla campaign team in Probolinggo, East Java, during the July 9 presidential election.

The alleged practices included the distribution of Rp 500,000 (US$43.18) each to a number of vendors at Wono Asih Market and headscarves, or jilbab, to women, said the Prabowo-Hatta legal team in its election result dispute (PHPU) documents published on the Constitutional Court website at mahkamahkonstitusi.go.id on Saturday evening, Antara reported.

The Prabowo-Hatta legal team, which comprised 95 lawyers, said it had also found indications of vote buying in the form of sarong and basic commodity distribution to local residents in Sukosari district and Bangsal Sari village in Jenggawah, Balung, Sukowono district.

Similar practices also allegedly took place in Batu, Malang, East Java.

In its report, the team said it also found indications of election violations through the distribution of sarongs and cash in Tuban regency and the distribution of Rp 75,000 per resident in Gresik regency.

The Prabowo-Hatta legal team registered its lawsuit against the 2014 presidential election result with the court on Friday, but on Saturday, the team visited the court again to complete its dispute documents.

Constitutional Court Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva said he expected that the inaugural hearing of the 2014 election dispute would take place on Wednesday, in which the court'€™s judge panel would listen to explanations from the petitioners regarding the substance of their lawsuit. (ebf)
