he former treasurer of the Democratic Party, Muhammad Nazaruddin, wasnot among the inmates given remissions at Idul Fitri this year.
"He did not get a remission," Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin stated at his residence on Monday, as quoted by Antara.com.
It was earlier reported that Nazaruddin would be one of the 137 graft prisoners at Sukamiskin Penitentiary to be given an Idul Fitri remission.
Amir then cited that a prisoner could be granted a remission if he or she met the requirements in line with Government Regulation No. 99/2012.
"The regulation applies to all [prisoners] as long as the criteria are met or the person concerned gets clearance from the Penitentiary Monitoring Team and obtains a recommendation from the Penitentiary Body," he added.
Nazaruddin, whose sentence was raised to seven years by the Supreme Court, failed to get a remission, Amir said.
This year at Idul Fitri, the ministry granted remissions to 56,704 Muslim prisoners in penitentiaries across the country.
Of the total, 820 prisoners were released after being granted remissions.
