ember of the Press Council Nezar Patria warned people to scrutinize the content of stories on at least seven news websites as they might have been intentionally falsified. The council identified seven news websites that had impersonated popular news sources.
Among the websites that had been duplicated included detik.com, liputan6.com, kompas.com, antaranews.com, tempo.co and tribunnews.com.
'This is the first time that we have noticed cases where news websites have been impersonated for certain purposes,' Nezar said on Tuesday, as quoted by tempo.co
Nezar said the content of the counterfeit news websites could not be called journalism because they were full of lies. He added that the managers of the websites had obviously violated several laws stipulating patents, copyrights and journalistic integrity.(dic)
