ice President-elect Jusuf Kalla sent his condolences and deep regrets through spokesman Poempida Hidayatullah to the family of Dika, a 15-year-old teenager who died on Tuesday of asphyxiation while competing with others to reach Kalla during an open-house gathering held at Kalla'€™s personal residence in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

After being trampled at the open-house gathering, Dika was rushed to the Stellamarris hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.

"We acknowledge the lack of security in handling this situation,'€ Poempida said in his press statement on Tuesday.

Poempida added that Kalla called on the public not to bring underage children to open houses, campaigns or any kind of large and crowded event to ensure their safety.(gda)
