Toy vendors in Pasar Gembrong, Jatinegara, East Jakarta acknowledged theyâve experienced a dramatic increase in profits during this yearâs Idul Fitri holiday
oy vendors in Pasar Gembrong, Jatinegara, East Jakartaacknowledged they've experienced a dramatic increase in profits during thisyear's Idul Fitri holiday.
One of the toy sellers, Nabil, said on Wednesday his income increased 10 times during the days after Idul Fitri in comparison to what it is on normal days, according to kompas.com.
"My income can reach Rp 10 million (US$862) a day -- much more than I would normally get on a daily basis. There is just no comparison. Usually I would only get around Rp 1 to 2 million a day. This is like an Idul Fitri bonus for us," Nabil said.
Nabil explained that the dramatic income increase happens annually when customers come looking for specific toys, such as remote-controlled toy cars, mini helicopters and dolls. The prices of his toys vary from Rp 60,000 for a toy car to as much as Rp 1 million for a mini helicopter.
Wakri, who sells toy guns, also said that his income had increased substantially. Normally, he said, he gained Rp 500,000 a day, but his income could reach Rp 5 million daily during the Idul Fitri holiday.
One of Wakri's customers, Setiadi, said that he bought a Rp 180,000 toy gun as an Idul Fitri present for his son.
"I bought it to make him happy. I bought two of the same. The small ones cost Rp 40,000 each," he said. (fss)
