Influx of returning holidaymakers through Java's south lane sharply rising

T

he influx of holidaymakers returning to Jakarta from their cities of origin across Java started to rise on Thursday and is projected to reach its peak on Friday or Saturday.

"The number of vehicles heading to Jakarta started to increase on Thursday, while the many vehicles on Tuesday and Wednesday were used to visit recreational sites," Bandung traffic police unit chief Adj. Comr. Eko Munaryanto said in Bandung on Thursday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Eko said that the flow of vehicles through the Malangbong-Nagreg route and the alternative Garut route will be crowded as the two routes accommodated vehicles from Tasikmalaya.

The Bandung Police in coordination with the Garut Police and representatives of the state Purbaleunyi toll road management company, Jasa Marga, will be on duty to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, he said.

"An intermittent close-open system will be applied so as to help minimize congestion, especially on the route from Garut," Eko said, while urging motorists not to stop haphazardly on the shoulder of the road in Nagreg but to stop only at rest areas.

According to an evaluation of the homecoming flow'€™s security from a week before to the day after Idul Fitri, the Bandung regency was conducive.

Eko said the number of traffic accidents had decreased compared to last year. There was only one significant accident recorded, he said, adding that police presence along the traveling and city border lanes had been effectively intensified. (hak/hhr)
