Issue of the day: Prabowo'€™s self-humiliation

strong>July 23, p1

Gerindra Party presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto humiliated himself on Tuesday by rejecting the 2014 presidential election result and pulling himself out of the election, claiming that the election was flawed and marred by widespread fraud.

In the days after election day on July 9, Prabowo said he would accept whatever decision was made by the General Elections Commission (KPU) with regard to the result.

'€œThe 2014 presidential election overseen by KPU was riddled with problems. It was undemocratic and went against the 1945 Constitution,'€ Prabowo said at his campaign headquarters, Polonia House in East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Prabowo voiced his statement as the KPU was concluding the final vote recapitulation. In his speech, Prabowo instructed all members of his campaign team taking part in the KPU'€™s plenary session to walk out in protest.

A true tiger is a silent animal; it creeps, it swims and works stealthily, roaring only when needed. This quality can also be found within special-op soldiers. They work stealthily and only reveal themselves when the conditions require them to do so.

I am not Indonesian but I live here and after being a bit scared about the developments of the past weeks, I am very proud now to witness a country with such huge potential that in the end has chosen the future and not the rattled past! Thank you Indonesia '€” may your future be bright.

So, what'€™s next, Prabowo? Are you going to take your defeat to the Constitutional Court or are you just going to quietly retreat to your home and play with your horses?

Cotto Mattee

I suggest that Prabowo should keep his word '€” that he would leave the political arena forever if he lost the 2014 presidential election. And what'€™s more, some of his moves were leading to a '€œblunder'€.

Pikintoro

Let'€™s thank God. In this holy month God has shown his blessing that the voice of the people has been heard. Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla are the Indonesian president- and vice president-elect. Now they are our leaders, the top leaders of our Indonesia Raya.

Many parties said that the election was conducted in a fair and objective manner despite Prabowo'€™s withdrawal from the election process. The winner would be number 1 or number 2. God has decided that number 2 is the winner. Mr. Prabowo should be a good loser.

One thing Indonesia shares with Germany; Chancellor Merkel and Jokowi both came from science and engineering backgrounds, instead of law or politics like most nations'€™ leaders.  They might be neither very flexible nor prone to compromise but are simple, straight and efficient.

It is so nice to see that Prabowo favors a fair election without corruption. And that he wishes to see fraud culprits end up in jail. What a good man!

Sir, as you stated: '€œWe are not willing to let the mandate of the people be mocked and desecrated'€ and if these things have occurred then it is of urgent and immediate interest to the nation that you act immediately. Use your means Prabowo, use your tools and place the evidence before the Indonesian public, not later, not sometime, but right now. For if you cannot then you should go quietly into the night and forever remain silent.

I can'€™t stop myself from laughing. It'€™s funny how he pulled himself out of the race. He humiliated himself by rejecting the result. So now the public really know him so well, that he is arrogant, emotional and full of ambition. Glad that Indonesians chose the right person to be the next president. All the best for Indonesia.

This headline says everything about Prabowo'€™s inability to accept reality.  His reactions, comments, defiant statements negate all attempts to make him appear and act presidential.

Maybe, his final contribution to this chain of event is that after all, even if challenged or attacked, the national presidential election system, procedures and methodology are adequately sound and will withstand any subversive attempts. Great report, it portrays well the main character.

The face of the man who addressed Indonesians as my people is the face of a narrowly defeated presidential contender. If he truly is a patriot, he will say to all; let us unite and be led by the man who has won. As a former army senior general he should have said that with discipline the country will progress and he will do his part as a good citizen for the sake of his nation.

Dear Mr. Subianto, by default elections in Indonesia are legally flawed. It had Soeharto, you know? Also remember last week you said you would abide by the KPU ruling? Good thing you withdrew from the election and provided the example that a real leader would give.

He knew that he had lost and typically of him, withdrew to save face before a decision was to be declared. This will allow him to subsequently claim that he was not really in the competition. Yes, he'€™s still trying to fool the masses and believe me, there will be many who will take his words as truth.
