AKARTA : Mamiek Prakoso, one of the nation's most renowned comedians, died at Brayat Minulya
Hospital in Surakarta, Central Java, on Sunday. He was 53.
According to his younger brother Eko Gudel, the comedian had been hospitalized since Aug. 1 and died of a liver ailment, okezone.com reported. Singer Glenn Fredly took to Twitter to express his condolences.
'Grieving for Srimulat Mamiek Prakoso (comedian) who passed away today ['¦] Thank you, mas Mamiek,' Glenn said, as reported by kompas.com. Mamiek, born in Salatiga, Central Java, April 6, 1961, launched his career with the Srimulat comedy troupe, a staple of local humor, appearing on shows broadcast by several national television stations from the late 1980s up to 2006.
The comedian, the older brother of singer Didi Kempot, made his final bow on screen in 2013, starring in two films: Finding Srimulat and Air Mata Terakhir Bunda (Mother's Last Tears).
