Police reject Gerindra'€™s report on ballot boxes opening order

N

ational Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie said the police had decided to refuse to follow up on a report filed by Gerindra Party deputy chairman Fadli Zon, who had asked the police to investigate the General Elections Commission's (KPU) instruction to reopen a number of ballot boxes.

'€œPrabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa's legal team should first report the case to the Elections Supervisory Agency [Bawaslu] before coming to us,'€ Ronny said as quoted by tempo.co.

He said the police would then initiate an investigation if Bawaslu considered it necessary.

Prabowo and Hatta's legal team reported the KPU to Bawaslu on July 31, arguing that the opening of the ballot boxes, as instructed by the KPU, was an abuse of authority.

Fadli then reported the case to the police on Aug. 3.

Fadli said the ballot boxes should not have been opened before the first hearing of the election dispute at the Constitutional Court.(alz)
