Construction of Blok M-Ciledug Transjakarta corridor set to begin

The construction of a new Transjakarta bus corridor connecting Ciledug in Tangerang with Blok M in South Jakarta is set to begin, as the city administration has organized the project tender.

Jakarta Public Works Agency deputy head Agus Priyono said the agency'€™s goods and services procurement division (ULP) had opened the tender for bids.

'€œThe construction of Corridor 13, which will be elevated, has entered the bidding phase. The project'€™s value totals around Rp 2.5 trillion,'€ Agus told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday, adding that the corridor would pass along Jl. Pierre Tendean in South Jakarta.

He pointed out that the elevated road would not be built exclusively for Transjakarta buses.'€œFor the sake of expanding the road network in Jakarta, the road will be open to private vehicles as well.

'€œThe bus lane will be placed in the middle. It will also be possible to apply the ERP [electronic road pricing] system, and it will carry mixed traffic. We have prioritized the construction from Ciledug to Tendean because of the heavy traffic,'€ he said.

Corridor 13 will be the second Transjakarta route to connect Jakarta with its surrounding areas. The first one was the extension of Corridor 2, to connect with Bekasi, in May this year.

The agency is also preparing to open tenders for three further corridors: Corridor 15 connecting the University of Indonesia (UI) campus in Depok with Manggarai in South Jakarta; Corridor 14 connecting Tendean in South Jakarta with Kalimalang in East Jakarta, and Corridor 11 connecting Kampung Melayu with Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta.

'€œIf approved, we will open the tenders at the end of this year,'€ he said.

Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama confirmed that the tender had been opened for bidding, saying that he hoped Jakarta would eventually have a network of elevated busways.

The new bus corridor will not only be dedicated to Transjakarta buses.

'€œBuses from outside the capital are welcome to use the road, too. People stuck in traffic jams will envy the people who take public buses because there will be no traffic jams on the busways. As a consequence, I hope people will shift to public transportation,'€ Ahok said.

The deputy governor also reiterated his intention to ban subsidized fuel from the capital.

'€œWhen the Transjakarta bus network is complete, I aim to ban subsidized fuel in the capital. BPH Migas [the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency] should support this. I criticized their decision to limit the distribution of subsidized diesel. Why diesel? It should have been subsidized Premium instead because private vehicles use it,'€ he said.

The city has extended Transjakarta Corridor 2 connecting Harmoni in Central Jakarta and Pulogadung in East Jakarta to Jl. Bekasi Raya, adding eight new bus stops at KIP, Tipar Cakung, Cakung United Tractors, Pasar Cakung, Cakung Cilincing, Bekasi Pulo Gebang, Ujung Menteng and Harapan Indah.

Separately, Transjakarta Management Authority head Pargaulan Butar-Butar said that as of Aug. 11, the electronic ticketing system would gradually be applied to all Transjakarta corridors. The policy has so far been applied to Corridor 1 connecting Kota in West Jakarta to Blok M in South Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the e-ticketing system has yet to be applied to Corridor 4, which serves Pulogadung-Dukuh Atas, or Corridor 6, serving Dukuh Atas-Ragunan, as the management was still preparing the infrastructure.
