eneral Elections Commission (KPU) head Husni Kamil Manik filed a police report against the Gerindra Party's Jakarta chairman, Muhammad Taufik, on Monday morning, claiming that the latter publicly threatened to apprehend him.
Taufik, who was previously sentenced by the Central Jakarta Court to 18 months in prison for graft, reportedly threatened to apprehend Husni on Sunday. Taufik allegedly said he would apprehend the KPU head if the police did not arrest him for fraud that occurred during the July 9 presidential election.
'We decided to come here [to National Police headquarters] after holding a commissioners meeting,' said Husni as quoted by tempo.co. He arrived at the police headquarters at 1 a.m. with other KPU members, including Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah, Hadar Nafis Gumay, Sigit Pamungkas, Arief Budiman, Ida Budiati and Juri Ardiantoro.
He said he had proof of Taufik's threat, such as a video recording. He said Taufik had violated Article 328 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on abduction, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years' imprisonment. (alz)
