GMIS & Rebels start on a winning note

I

n the opening games of the Apple Coal JCA League'€™s 2014-15 season, GMIS and the Fez Rebels posted convincing victories in Division I & Division II, respectively.

In Division I, a splendid unbeaten knock of 156 runs from Pratyush Prats Chaturvedi helped GMIS beat WPP XI by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Batting first, WPP scored 120 runs in the last 11 overs to reach a respectable 240/6 in 35 overs after experiencing trouble at 120/5 in 24 overs.

Rajan made 63 not out and Pallav scored 46 runs. Diwakar took 2 wickets. At 53/3 in 12 overs, WPP was slightly ahead but with Prats on the crease, they could never be sure. GMIS put on 136 runs between 12th and 27th overs without losing a wicket to be firmly in the driver'€™s seat. GMIS reached the victory target in 33rd over. Maulik scored 37 runs.

At Cibubur in Division II, Malay Singh'€™s all-around performance with the bat and ball was instrumental in an easy 64 runs victory by the Fez Rebels over the Senayan Tigers. Electing to bat first, the Rebels scored 192/9 in 35 overs with Corbon scoring a half century and Malay 39 runs. Desandri and Yeri took 4 wickets each. The Tigers slumped to 50/5 in 12 overs and never recovered from there, finally going all out for 128 runs. Nato Nado Fernandez scored 47 runs. Malay and OP Rajesh took 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

'€œThis year'€™s league has 10 teams in Divison I and 6 teams in Division II. Based on this year'€™s performance, two teams from Division I will be relegated to Division II. The idea is to move to 8 teams each in both Divisions by next year'€, informed JCA president Randy Reckerman.
