SBY inaugurates three symbols of world peace

P

resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated on Tuesday three symbols of world peace at the Indonesia Peace and Security Center (IPSC) compound in Sentul, West Java.

The three symbols consist of a peacekeeper statue, a gong of peace and a flag tower.

The 150-meter tall tower, which is equipped with a 600-square-meter flag, has a 309-ton steel frame. Located 410 meters above sea level, the flag tower is the highest in Indonesia and the third-highest in the world, the Defense Ministry said in a statement as reported by kompas.com.

The gong of peace is made of brass and was made in Jepara, Central Java, and has a weight of 250 kilograms and a diameter of 2 meters. The gong is plated in 18 carat gold.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta-based sculptors made the peacekeeper statue using 13 tons of bronze.

'€œThe statue reflects the participation of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel in peacekeeping operations across the globe,'€ the statement said.

In April, Yudhoyono inaugurated the IPSC, which provides world-class training for local and international stakeholders.

In 2010, the Defense Ministry started the construction of the 262-hectare compound, which houses various facilities including the Indonesian Defense University, a terrorism deradicalization center, a disaster response training center, a language center, a peacekeeping force training center and a peacekeeping standby force.
