emocratic Party deputy secretary-general Ramadhan Pohan has said it is possible that his party will decide to throw its support behind the next government to be led by president-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and vice president-elect Jusuf Kalla.
However, such a decision lays in the hands of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his capacity as the party's chief patron.
'We are open to any political power in relation to building communications. No problem. But when it comes to joining a political bloc or axis, it is certainly different. This usually depends on the party's highest assembly led by President Yudhoyono,' Ramadhan said Tuesday evening as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that the party's current position was neutral. "The party will support anybody in relation to defending the nation's people and national interests, including policies to be issued by the next president," he said.
'We have received a clear order to remain neutral, independent and moderate. But when there are changes, of course they will be discussed in the assembly and the result of the discussion will be submitted to the party's central executive board. Thus far, however, there has not been any discussion about changing direction,' Ramadhan said. (put/hhr)
