Rupiah falls to 11,694 per dollar Wednesday morning

he rupiah traded among banks in Jakarta on Wednesday morning depreciated by 15 points to Rp 11,694 per US dollar, down from the previous Rp 11,679 per dollar.

Monex Investindo Futures research head Ariston Tjendra said the dollar strengthened against many currencies in Asia due to the release of positive US housing and retail industry data.

"The US dollar is continuing its domination against currencies across Asia, including the rupiah," Ariston said in Jakarta on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

He also said market players were expecting the US central bank to immediately increase the Fed rate due to the improved housing and retail data. .

"Investors are waiting for the Fed'€™s new policy during the Federal Open Market Committee meeting this week," he said.

In addition, he said easing tensions between Ukraine and Russia had prevented the rupiah from falling further in the morning. (nfo)
