Climber remains missing on Mount Gambuta

A

climber who went missing on Mount Gambuta in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (TNBNW), Bone Bolango regency, Gorontalo province, is still unaccounted for.

Earlier, it was reported that 36 mountain climbers affiliated with a number of nature-lover communities and the Mapala Students Nature Lovers group set off with the intention of raising the Indonesian flag at the peak of the 1,745-meter Mt. Gambuta, in conjunction with Indonesia'€™s 69th Independence Day. They left for the mountain, which is seldom explored, on Aug. 15.

The group'€™s circumstances were only confirmed when a majority of the climbers arrived at their last stop in Ilomata village, Bulango Ulu district, Bone Bolango regency, on Tuesday evening and met with local members of the National Search and Rescue Team (Basarnas), who were searching for them. It was then learned that the number of climbers actually stood at 43, most of whom were students.

Climber Fingki Pramono Ishak, 24, said his group was late to return because they had to search for the missing climber, named as Ramdan Ibrahim, 20, a member of the Iguana Nature Lovers group.
