Ethics Council rejects complaints on voter lists

T

he Election Organizers Ethics Council (DKPP) has rejected a complaint submitted by presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and running mate Hatta Rajasa against General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Husni Kamil Manik in the use of the special voter list (DPK) and the special additional voter list (DPKTb) in the 2014 presidential election.

'€œThe defendant was not proven to have violated the electoral code of ethics,'€ council member Valina Singka Subekti said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Valina said the KPU had stepped up by using the special voter list and special additional voter list so that people could exercise their constitutional right even though they were not listed on the final voter list (DPT).

She said the KPU'€™s policy to introduce the special voter list and additional voter list could not be considered a violation of the electoral code of ethics and the complaint was rejected.

She said, however, that the two lists could create uncertainty about the total number of voters.

According to the complainant, policies created by the KPU were the roots of problems in executing the presidential election, especially in the arrangement of the special voter list and additional voter list because they did not give legal certainty. (put/nvn)
