: Investigators from the Jayapura Prosecutors Office on Tuesday arrested the former head of Keerom regency Public Works Office, Ahmad Yusnan, at his office in the Gunung Merah area of Sentani, Jayapura regency, Papua.
Jayapura Prosecutor's Office head Futhoil was quoted by Antara news agency in Sorong on Wednesday as saying that Yusnan was arrested for failing to serve a two-year prison term handed down by the Jayapura District Court in 2012.
'Ahmad Yusnan was sentenced to two years by the Jayapura District Court in September, 2012, for being guilty of embezzling Rp 2.1 billion [US$182,500] in state funds,' said Futhoil, adding that Yusnan had never served the sentence as he had been constantly on the run.
Futhoil said the Rp 2.1 billion was allocated for a bridge and road project spanning 5.5 kilometers in Molof village, Senggi district, but it was never carried out, causing the state to lose the funds.
Yusnan, who has been serving as the Infrastructure Division head of the Jayapura regency Development Planning Agency, was escorted to Abepura Prison to serve his sentence.
