JAKARTA: Reggae singer Ras Muhamad plans to move into record producing and to establish his own recording label to develop Indonesian reggae musicians
AKARTA: Reggae singer Ras Muhamad plans to move into record producing and to establish his own recording label to develop Indonesian reggae musicians.
'Reggae music in Indonesia has really grown. We have a lot of [reggae] communities here, but not many promoters are interested in them,' Ras said as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta.
The 32-year-old musician said that Indonesian reggae music was unique because it often incorporated elements of traditional Indonesian music.
Ras, whose real name is Muhamad Egar, continues to release work to promote Indonesian reggae music. In July, he released an album titled Salam (Greeting) for the international market, in which he collaborated with Jamaican and German musicians.
He released his debut album, Reggae Ambassador, in 2007, which was heavily influenced by up-tempo dancehall reggae signatures of digital instrumentation and aggressive vocals.
