olice on Wednesday arrested three Chinese citizens at an illegal gold mining site (PETI) in Perentak village, Pangkalan Jambu district, Merangin regency.
'They were arrested for not holding clear documentation and as their presence at the PETI was suspicious,' said Sungai Manau Police chief First Insp. Tri Cahyono.
Tri added that the Chinese citizens, identified as Li Geng, 44, Liat Muang, 24, and Mucad, 39, were apprehended after police received information on the presence of foreigners at the mining site.
They then traveled to the location to follow up on the information and found the three foreigners having a meal break. Tri said police had tried to communicate with the foreigners but they could not speak Indonesian or English.
They were eventually brought to the Sungai Manau Police station and then handed over to the Merangin regency police.
