he chairman of Muhammadiyah, the country's second largest Muslim organization, Din Syamsuddin, has asked Tapak Suci, a pencak silat (a traditional martial art) organization under the auspices of the organization, to open a branch in Gaza, Palestine.
Din made the statement during the opening of the 16th Tapak Suci national adult championships on Thursday.
'Tapak Suci has opened 12 branches abroad; in the Netherlands, Great Britain, Egypt, Germany and Singapore. I hope that in the future we can open a branch in Gaza,' Din said, without elaborating as to whether the plan was aimed at providing martial-arts training to Gazans, who have recently been under attack by the Israeli Defense Forces.
Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa has said in a statement that the siege of Gaza is actually 'collective punishment' of Palestinians.
