he Jakarta Police have said that 46 people were injured during Thursday's protests at the Arjuna Wijaya monument, also known as the Horse Statue, in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
'Around 40 people suffered from sore eyes due to tear gas, but they were soon released from hospital after treatment,' spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters on Friday.
Rikwanto said two people were treated at the Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital on Thursday, one for a sprained ankle and the other for a facial injury, but that had already been sent home.
'Three people are still being treated at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital [RSPAD, Central Jakarta] for bruising,' he said.
One police officer was also injured in the scuffles, Rikwanto said, and received treatment at the Jakarta Police's health center.
On Thursday the police fired water cannons and tear gas at protesters who attempted to breach barbed-wire barricades erected by police. The protestors were attempting to gain access to the Constitutional Court where the ruling in the presidential election dispute was being announced.
