Young couple Ahmad Imam Al Hafitd and Assyifa Ramadhani, who are standing trial at the Central Jakarta District Court for allegedly murdering 19-year-old Ade Sara Angelina Suroto, face life sentences if they are found guilty.
The two defendants were not accompanied by their lawyers, but the family and friends of the victim, Sara, wore T-shirts with her face on them as they sat in the courtroom.
During the hearing, state prosecutors indicted 18-year-old Hafitd and his girlfriend, Assyifa, separately under multiple articles of the Criminal Code (KUHP). Article 340 of the KUHP stipulates 20 years' imprisonment to life for premeditated murder.

The mother of the victim shows us just how big the hearts of mothers are. However, the law must be upheld and those kids have to be punished.

I was shocked to read what the mother of the deceased did. The defendants need to be severely punished.
They should be imprisoned for at least 25 years.

Everyone will have an opinion about the mother. I understand the whole situation is overwhelming for her, but she understands that putting another person away isn't going to bring back her daughter.
If I was a mother, I would be overwhelmed with emotions and would want the truth to heard and for justice to be served.
However, I also have to understand that I am not in control of the consequences these two will face ' that is up to the judges.
For this, I highly respect what she said.
Not because of her decision to say she doesn't want them to receive the highest punishment, but because of her courage to say so.
In all honestly, I cannot imagine accepting just the truth ' but like Gandhi once said 'an eye for eye makes the whole world blind.'

For some reason the courtroom is very effective in turning people into the 'religious' kind, complete with the mandatory attire and matching holy book. The boyfriend is missing out for not taking this opportunity.

I assume that most defendants are told by their lawyers how to appear and behave in court to 'impress' the judges.
