he legal team of losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has urged the National Police to call off an inquiry into its Red Garuda campaign icon.
The legal team member, Habiburokhman, on Monday underlined that the campaign logo was not intended to tarnish the image of the Garuda, a mythical creature and Indonesia's national emblem.
'We regret that there has been a controversy surrounding the logo. This issue has been cleared by the Elections Supervisory Committee [Bawaslu], the General Elections Commission [KPU] and the Election Organizers Ethics and Council [DKPP],' he said before filing his complaint at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta.
'The logo has been used by millions of Indonesians, including Prabowo and his running mate Hatta Rajasa. Debating the logo will only spark a new political dispute. We ask the police to consider that,' he said.
The police launched the investigation following a report filed by Teuku Chandra Adiwana, the secretary-general of the National Symbol Salvage Committee (KPLN) in June.
Teuku accused Prabowo's camp of defacing the national emblem as regulated in the 2009 Law on national flag, language, emblem and anthem.
