Police in Central Java have tightened security measures at Borobudur Temple in Magelang in response to an apparent threat made by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) supporters to attack the world-renowned cultural-heritage site.
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie said on Friday that aside from tightening security around Borobudur, the Central Java Police had begun poring over data from the Internet for possible clues about the plan.
Your comments:
Borobudur, like the great statues of Bamiyan in Afghanistan, is part of humanity.
Those who wish to destroy any religious structure are guilty of nothing less than crimes against humanity.

Borobudur belongs to the world (it's one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites) so everyone has a responsibility to protect it.
The poster of the threat on Facebook should be easy to trace and be charged accordingly.
The guy should be made to learn how to create a statue in order to appreciate the amount of work involved and the beauty of the final product.
Perhaps those two who have been found guilty of damaging the temple should be made to do the same.
These ghastly individuals obviously were not able to appreciate the achievements of their ancestors.
It would take a few minutes to destroy the masterpiece and I doubt very much it could be replaced once it was gone.

Even though Borobudur temple is a place for Buddhists, Indonesia is not a religious country.
Why did these people even plan to do that?
What did they want? To make Islam the only religion in the entire world, or what?
Islam never allowed Muslims to do anything like destroy, damage, etc. And for Indonesia itself, Borobudur is one of the cultural heritage sites that should be preserved.

It is only consequential from reading what they have done in Mosul after they overran it in June this year when many Iraqi cultural heritage sites, tombs of biblical prophets and even mosques are being destroyed or bombed to rubble in front of crying (Sunni) Iraqis.
Does anyone believe the Indonesian branch of ISIL will stop with Borobudur ' and Buddhism ' only? Why not also the nearby Prambanan temple, which is Hindu, and if they can also conquer all of Bali's Hindu heritage sites?
