Ban Ki-moon asks for peaceful solution for Ukraine in Bali meeting

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has requested peaceful resolutions to the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

'€œI regret the situation on the borders of Ukraine and Russia. That conflict has become a huge issue with the escalating conflict on the field, where firearms supply has been flowing from Russia to Ukraine,'€ Ban Ki-moon said as quoted by Antara news agency.

Ban Ki-moon was speaking at a press conference on the sixth Global Forum on United Nation Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Nusa Dua, Bali on Friday.

He mentioned the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Minsk, Belarus on Tuesday.

'€œThe recent meeting in Minsk, Belarus was followed by new reports on the wars and conflicts occurring on the southeastern part of Ukraine,'€ Ban Ki-moon said.

He hoped that all parties could safeguard the borders of Ukraine and Russia as well as push forward peaceful resolutions.

'€œThe election on Oct. 26 will be held in Ukraine and could be a reconciliation to ensure the faith of Ukraine as well as its government to continue,'€ he said.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian envoy for Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) accused Russia on Thursday for carrying out a '€œdirect invasion'€, but Moscow delegations denied the reports, which said that its military personnel had been actively moving in the eastern part of the country.

'€œWe recorded the direct invasion of the Russian military on the eastern part of Ukraine,'€ a delegation from Kiev, Ihor Prokopchuk, told reporters after a closed meeting to discuss recent developments  in Ukraine, Agence France-Presse reported.

However, a delegation from Moscow for OSCE on Thursday denied that Russian military had invaded the eastern part of Ukraine.

'€œThere were no Russian military personnel in the eastern part of Ukraine,'€ Andrey Kelin told reporters after the same closed meeting.

The Russian defense ministry denied accusations thrown by the United States and Kiev that its military personnel was involved in the escalating battle between Ukrainian military personnel and pro-Kremlin separatist rebellion in the eastern part of the country. (put)
