nteriordesigners from all over the Asia Pacific region are scheduled to meet inYogyakarta and Surakarta on Sept. 15-19 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the AsiaPacific Space Designer Alliance (APSDA).

The Indonesian Interior Designer Association (HDII) director for international relations, Lea A. Aziz, said that the event would take the theme '€œMystical Design'€, which is described as '€œbeauty and a sense of mystery projected through objects or space'€.

'€œIt is an honor for us to have Indonesia host the event. We have selected the country'€™s two most culturally significant cities to host the event'€™s assembly, congress and workshop. Together will build a lasting impression for all parties involved,'€ Lea said during a visit to the Jakarta Post office on Tuesday.

Lea, who is also APSDA secretary general, said that interior designers from 15 countries including Malaysia, China, Singapore, India, Thailand and Australia would attend the event.

She added that Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu was scheduled to officially open the event.

The event itself will also host a number of keynote speakers from the industry, including noted architect Yori Antar and Indonesian interior design stalwart Hadiprana.

Previously, the ministry's director-general of media-, design- and science and technology-based creative economy, Harry Waluyo, said that the 2014 APSDA event would enrich the repertoire of interior design in the region as well as serve as a place to learn about the influence of neighboring countries'€™ cultures on their designs.

'€œThis event will not only help the Indonesian design industry to thrive, but should also boost international tourist numbers to the country,'€ Harry said on Aug. 20. (dyl/nvn)
