AKARTA: Actor Rio Dewanto said he was finding it hard to learn the Batak language for his role in the remake of a 1973 movie, entitled Bulan di Atas Kuburan (Moon over the Tomb).
Rio, a Javanese, plays a Batak writer named Sahat in the film.
'Sahat is a character who was born in Samosir [North Sumatra]. He comes to Jakarta to make a living as a novelist after winning a writing competition,' Rio said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
'Sahat comes from a remote Batak village, so I really need to work hard to perfect my Batak pronunciation.'
The husband of actress Atiqah Hasiholan, who is a Batak woman, said the movie focused on urbanization in Jakarta.
'The movie depicts how a man from a village tries to achieve his dream in the big city, but to no avail. It also shows how Jakarta is riddled by a number of different conflicts.'
