Police set sights on int'€™l drug ring in Kuching

T

he National Police have pledged to track down a drug syndicate implicating two of its officers who have been detained by the Royal Malaysian Police in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia.

Police spokesperson Ronny F. Sompie said Tuesday that the police'€™s criminal investigation division and West Kalimantan narcotics division would cooperate to track down the drug ring, while waiting for a case update from the Bukit Aman Police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

'€œThe National Police and the West Kalimantan Police will work together here so we can find where the supply comes from,'€ Ronny told reporters.

Malaysian police arrested Indonesian mid-ranking officers Adj. Sr. Comr. Idha Endi Prasetiono and Chief Brig. Harahap at a hotel in Kuching, Malaysia, on Aug. 29 and reportedly seized 3.9 kilograms of methamphetamine.

The arrest was made following a tip-off from a drug courier, who was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysian Police before carrying the drug to Kuching.

Ronny said that Idha and Harahap were in Malaysia without consent from their superiors and said that they were not in possession of the drugs when arrested. He added that representatives of West Kalimantan Police were currently in Kuching to coordinate with the local police.
